My Sweater Season Outfit Formula

As we kickoff the new year I aim to give you some fresh takes on everyday style. So, in the month of January I’ll be decoding my 2019 sweater season formula with a few fresh looks you too can try on this season. I say  “decoding,” because sometimes a fresh perspective can elude us as we fall into a rut in our seasonal wardrobes, which is especially easy in the winter when the cold weather shows no signs of easing up. Opting for a cozy sweater and jeans or leggings day in, day out starts to feel old by the time the new year rolls around. Consider these sweater pairings you winter wardrobe palette cleansers. 

SHOP THE OUTFIT: SWEATER & LEOPARD PANTS

My first Sweater Season Formula is to pair a cozy, oversized sweater with a printed and tailored pant like these leopard ones from Reformation.  A low-heeled mule or slingback matches the effortless, chic vibe of such a pairing. But a sock bootie or pump is equally effective. 

So, let’s talk about what works here. For starters, I always find a little leopard goes a long way in reviving a winter wardrobe. Any animal-print pant for that matter is a bold choice that does much of that stylish statement-making legwork for you. And a printed pant in vertical stripes, or plaids are also on-trend ways to switch things up. You can opt for comfy and cozy on top and choosing a tailored bottom adds a nice balance to an oversized sweater. I like to tuck my sweater in at the front to show off a belt or tailored waistline or just to neaten up a look. Now, you try it with your fuzziest, coziest sweater for maximum results.
