How to Wear Statement Boots

Black boots have been a daily outfit staple for me for as long as I can remember. My style has always been decidedly dressy, a tad rebellious— just look to my teenage years for prime examples, and polished accordingly to my seven plus years working mostly as a copywriter in New York City in fashion. A perfectly heeled boot that you love can bring just the right amount of edge and style to most any outfit. So this season when designer after designer, along with big brands and department stores, seem to bring us boots in every fabrication and stand-out print imaginable, naturally fashion girls want to show them off by making them the centerpiece of their ootd’s. So what styles should you be wearing this season and how to best strut the very fashionable stuff they are made of? Here’s my latest #ootd for a few key tips and shop more of my favorite stand-out styles below.

VELVET STATEMENT BOOTS

You may have noticed the hems of jean's styles seemed to get shorter this season. Even in the winter months the newest shapes like ankle, cropped flare, stovepipe and gaucho styles are the perfect ways to show off the entire length of your boot from top to toe. I chose this Le Brut Sexy pair from Sézane in a cropped straight fit, said to highlight your curves with a high-waisted button fly, a part of their permanent collection so you can get them anytime! If you don’t know French brand Sézane, I highly recommend checking them out. A new fave of mine, I swoon and fill up my wishlist on their site immediately when every season there is a launch of a limited edition collection of new styles. You can subscribe to their newsletter to be notified of these collections to ease the FOMO only slightly.  Trust me, it’s that good.

You can see my Robert Clergerie velvet boots more than peek out of the cropped-length. In fact, if I turn around you can see the full grosgrain ribbon lace-up detail that I love. Wouldn’t it be a shame to hide these under a bootcut length or only be able to pair them with a skirt? The cropped jean lengths let your show of your bold choices and get more mileage out of wearing them with such new possibilities.

My sweater is also by Sézane and I chose a lighter ivory color so the pink velvet boots remain center stage. But not one to shy away from unique details, I love how the lace-up ribbon of the sweater matches the showiness of the lace-up boot and what’s more this sweater can be worn with the detail in the front or back! That’s what I love about Sézanne, their pieces really feel special.

Some other boot styles I’ll be wearing from winter well into spring are shiny patent leather styles, soft, luxurious and romantic satin, and sequins, Baby. If you’ve seen the $10,000 Chanel stunners Kendall Jenner wore on her birthday that set off this firestorm trend, or, the Brother Vellies pair that Marianna Hewitt owns, I’ve got some cheaper, some just as luxurious pairs, to shop below that you are going to absolutely love. Be sure to let me know what boot styles are your fave and which ones you would like to see shown here on Artfullyblog.com.
